Stay safe next time

A few simple habits that keep you safe

Slow down when something feels rushed

If a message says you must act right now, take a breath first. Rushing is the oldest trick to stop you thinking.

Look at a link before you tap it

Hover with your mouse, or press and hold on a phone, to see where it really goes. If it is not a place you know, do not tap.

Check the real email address

Names are easy to fake. Tap the sender's name to see the real address behind it. If it looks odd, treat the message with care.

Ask the person another way

Not sure a message is real? Check with the person using a phone number or chat you already have, not the details in the message.
